Kenneth Ray Sturgill Obituary

Kenneth Ray Sturgill
1956—2025

Kenneth Ray Sturgill, 69, of Kermit, West Virginia, passed peacefully June 16, 2025, surrounded by his beloved wife of 50 years, Pauline Sturgill, and their four daughters: Jessica (Shelby) Meade, Sarah (James) Johnson, Alivia Sturgill and April (Michael) White.

Born April 14, 1956, Kenneth was a man of quiet strength, deep faith and unwavering devotion to his family. In his final days, he renewed his vows to God and left this world just as he lived in it—peacefully and surrounded by love.

Kenneth was more than a father—he was a steady presence, a teacher, and a helper who believed in doing what was right without needing recognition. He raised his children and grandchildren to respect hard work, honor the land, and live with honesty and compassion. On his mountaintop farm, he raised—most importantly—his family, along with livestock, gardens, and bees, always working side by side with those he loved. His life was rooted in the soil and shaped by his faith.

He was a proud “Poppy” to his grandchildren: Kendra May, Karie Robinson, Kaleb Meade, Caitlin Brighton, Chloe Sartin, Kinsey Sturgill, Camryn Fletcher, Ethan White, Lauryn White and Abram Sturgill. He was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him joy and now carry forward the strength of his name.

Kenneth was one of the last of a certain kind—a true mountain man in spirit. He helped anyone who needed it, held no grudges, and believed in working things out side by side. In a fast-changing world, he remained constant: a reminder of what it means to live simply, love deeply, and serve quietly. His final words to his family were simple, lasting ones: “Don’t sit around and cry. Get along and work together.” That’s the legacy he leaves—and one we will carry forward with love and pride. He was deeply loved and he will be deeply missed.

Funeral services took place at Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church in Dingess, West Virginia, on Thursday, June 18, 2025, officiated by Noah White Jr. Burial followed in a private family ceremony. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
