John Walter Cassady
1944—2025
John Walter Cassady, 81, passed away Jan. 24, 2025.
Born March 11, 1944, in Inez, he was the son of the late Sam and Daisy Cassady.
John was the sixth of 10 children. His siblings who preceded him in death include sisters Jean, Joan and Sarah and brothers Alex and Hedy.
Surviving siblings are Peggy, Mickey, Roger and Annette. He was an uncle to many.
John married his wife of 51 years, Robin, in 1973. They have two sons, Alex and Patrick. He was Papa to three grandchildren: Justin, Hayden and Alyssa. He loved his boys and grandchildren “to the moon and back!”
John served two years in the Army at Fort Jackson.
He was a lover of animals, especially horses. Many nights, he would get calls from horse owners to come and doctor their horses with colic. He was a ranch manager for many years. During the holidays, he would work at the ranch during the day and bake bread for Mazzullis all night.
John’s primary occupation was as a racehorse trainer. He was always working on a deal for a horse, and he even traded a horse for a travel trailer, which a guy won on the Price is Right.
John loved going to the horse races, especially betting. He loved watching the races on television with his son, Patrick.
In the past few years, John struggled with heart disease and dementia. He passed away under the wonderful care of his sister-in-law, Kitty. We cannot thank her enough. He is looking down on us with Mom, Dad, brothers, sisters and cousin Bill.
A private memorial service took place at the Cassady Cemetery.
