Martha Marie Smith White
1944—2025

Martha Marie Smith White, 81, of Kermit, West Virginia, passed away June 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born June 2, 1944, in Elaina, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Curtis Smith and Dorcas Coen.

In addition to her parents, Martha is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James E. White; her brothers, Dale, Wayne and Curtis Smith; and her sisters, Sherry Smith and Charlene (Earnest) Jarvis.

To know Martha was to feel the warmth of her light. She was a gift—genuine, kind and full of quiet strength. Her presence lit up every room and her love left a lasting imprint on every life she touched. Nothing brought her more joy than her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings and their families with her whole heart. They love her just as deeply in return.

Survivors include Martha’s cherished children: Franklin (Jennifer) White of Ghent, Scott (Brenda) White of Huntington, Elizabeth (Scott) Navarro of Wichita, Kansas, and Mary (Mark) Spaulding of Kermit; her beloved siblings, Melvin (Yvonne) Smith of Newton and Geraldine (Leroy) Lang of Ripley; her much-loved sisters-in-law, Naomi White, Lois Smith and Lucille White; brother-in-law Ralph White; and her devoted companion, Earnest Miller of Belview, Ohio.

Martha was a proud and loving grandmother of Alexandria (Brian) Loeffler, Brooke White, James White, Bradley (Anya )Walsh, Dylan Walsh, Jessica Jenkins, Kassy (Lane) Ashley, Macy White, Tyler (Angelina) Navarro, Austin Navarro, Payton Navarro and Marky (Jade) Spaulding. Her 17 great-grandchildren brought her endless joy and her face lit up every time they were near.

Martha’s life was celebrated June 16, 2025, at the Zion Hill Church in Newton, with Bobby Perry and John D. Messer officiating. She was laid to rest at Zion Hill Cemetery in Newton. Mullins Family Funeral Home of Warfield, Kentucky, is honored to serve the family.
