Newsome said she saw improvement among younger players as they faced varsity-level competition.

“The Vandy Camp was an incredible experience,” Newsome said. “Kids got to see a real D-1 program up close and see what it is all about. The facilities were unbelievable.”

The Lady Cardinals kicked off Day 1 with a perfect 2-0 record. They secured a 31-22 win over Lebanon and a tight 50-46 victory against Ezell-Harding.

The girls continued their strong performance on Day 2 with a 3-2 record. A highlight was a 36-32 triumph over Rogers High School.

The Cardinals will travel to Knott County on Wednesday. They will travel to the Kennadi Mollett Memorial Tournament hosted by E & A Hoop Dreams on June 14-15 at the Lenore Community Center.
