Body of missing Virginia man found in creek in Elkhorn City

ELKHORN CITY — Authorities are investigating the death of a Virginia man whose body was found June 4 in a creek in Elkhorn City.

Kentucky State Police from the Pikeville Post responded to the scene near Big Branch Road after the Elkhorn City Police Department reported the body in the water.

The deceased, Adam Elmer Stanley, 49, of Haysi, Virginia, had been reported missing in Dickenson County, Virginia. Authorities said he was last seen May 31.

The Pike County Coroner’s Office pronounced Stanley dead at the scene and sent his body to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The cause of death remains under investigation by Detective Jason Merlo of the Kentucky State Police and local authorities.
