Blood donors at Inez festival eligible for free gas for a year, pizza perks
INEZ — Donating blood this summer could come with more than the satisfaction of saving lives. It might also save you money at the gas pump.
As part of its seasonal promotion, the Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) is offering a series of giveaways and incentives to thank donors for stepping up during the summer months when blood donations typically decline. Among the prizes is a chance to win free gas for a year—a drawing that will award one lucky donor 52 $50 gift cards to Marathon, thanks to a partnership with Clark’s Pump-N-Shop.
Anyone who gives blood between June 1 and June 30 is automatically entered, including those who donate at the upcoming Sleigh Cancer Festival Blood Drive in Inez.
The blood drive in Inez will take place on June 6 from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. outside the Martin County Courthouse at 14 Court Street.
The KBC Bloodmobile will be stationed on-site during the Sleigh Cancer Awareness Festival, a community event focused on cancer research fundraising, education and support.
All donors at the festival will also receive a “Kentucky Donor” T-shirt and a buy one, get one free pizza slice coupon for Hanger 54 Pizza, redeemable at Clark’s Pump-N-Shop locations.
KBC officials note that summer blood donations often fall off due to travel, events and school breaks, even as demand rises with trauma and surgical cases. That gap can put a strain on supply chains and patient care.
To donate, individuals must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with a signed parental consent form), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health, and present a valid photo ID. Parental permission slips for 16-year-olds are available at kybloodcenter.org.
While appointments are encouraged, walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a time, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800-775-2522.
