TOMAHAWK — Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will close a section of KY 40 on Spicy Mountain in Martin County on Saturday. Crews plan to replace a failing cross-drain.
The closure at mile point 0.5 will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., cutting off all through traffic while workers install the new drain.
Crews will place message boards at the top and bottom of the hill to warn drivers about the closure and guide them to detours.
In a news release, KYTC said the repair will improve drainage and help prevent long-term road damage.
Officials urged drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and use alternate routes during the closure window.
Emergency vehicles will be allowed through if necessary.
Crews anticipate finishing the job in one day, weather permitting
“KYTC District 12 appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this necessary maintenance project,” the release said.
