INEZ — Martin County Middle School captured the OVC East Region championship, taking down Adams 11-1 and Lawrence County 4-2 at Cardinal Stadium last week.
Standing at 10-0, the Cards have proven themselves to be the best team in the region.
“I was happy with the way we played. We acted like we really wanted to win,” Coach Steven Gauze said. “I expected them to make us work for it. I’m proud of the effort.”
Against Adams on May 6, Annaleigh Davis and Jaz Jude were on fire with four goals each in the first-round win. Davis assisted Maddy Goble late in the first half in the box. Goble tacked on an assist.
Hope Caldwell shared the wealth with five assists and booted in a goal herself.
Lexi Cline sped down the left side of the field before kicking one between the posts.

Aubree Muncy and Anna Hinkle both helped a teammate on a score in the mercy-rule win that saw only one half of play.
With Lawrence County giving the Lady Cards some trouble earlier in the season, Coach Gauze knew the championship match would be no easy feat.
After playing the full 90 minutes following a rain delay, Martin County hoisted the trophy with a 4-2 victory.
Davis accounted for half of the Cardinal goals.
Alivia Stacy sent a bomb from near midfield that bounced above the Bulldog goalkeeper’s outstretched hands for a score.
Jude sent a crucial goal in for the Lady Cards.

Caldwell assisted on two and Goble on one goal.
Martin County received a bye to advance to the second round of the OVC tournament.
They will play at East Carter tonight against the winner of Russell/Lawrence.
