George Spence, 61, of Inez, was arrested Monday on McKinney Road in Inez on charges of unlawful imprisonment second degree, first-degree wanton endangerment and assault (domestic violence) with minor injury.

Deputy Steve Putman responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving firearms. Upon arrival, the deputy found the alleged victim fearing for her life. She told officers Spence had physically assaulted her inside the home, including shoving her against a refrigerator and causing bruising on her arm.

The woman said she escaped and ran to her vehicle in an attempt to leave. At that point, Spence allegedly came outside with an AR-10 rifle and pointed it at her through the windshield. His grandson reportedly intervened, stepping between Spence and the woman with the firearm still pointing in her direction. Spence eventually lowered the weapon but then flattened the woman’s tires and used his truck to block the driveway, preventing her from leaving.

Edward Jude

Edward Jude, 44, of Warfield, was arrested Monday on two bench warrants and a charge of public intoxication-controlled substance (excludes alcohol). Deputy Putman made the arrest.

Deputy Steve Putman noted, “This was the third call” on Jude on the same day. The deputy made contact with Jude after the first call. “He did not seem to be intoxicated. He willingly said I have my medicine on me and pulled it out. He had three suboxone pills.” After the third call, however, Jude could not stand up and was staggering. This time he had two pills left in the bottle with a bunch of powder-like substance. The deputy stated Jude was putting himself in danger while walking up and down the road on North Wolf Creek.

Sheriff Kirk responded to calls around 10 p.m. about a UPS truck that was “all over the road and running in the ditch.” One caller reported the driver had sped up and passed them on the four-lane.

The sheriff conducted a traffic stop on Woods and noticed a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He said Woods refused to blow properly into the portable breath test device and admitted he had drank six beers.

Chief Deputy Chris Kidd clocked Diaz at 92 mph in a 55 mph zone. When Kidd activated his emergency lights, Diaz reportedly glanced toward the cruiser—then accelerated. The officer drove several miles but did not see the vehicle. He determined it could have pulled off at Eden Elementary to avoid the traffic stop.

Kidd turned back and waited near Eden Elementary. In a short time, Diaz drove down the hill.

The deputy followed Diaz to Fitch Branch and initiated a traffic stop.

According to the police report, Diaz told the deputy he was running late for work and panicked when he saw law enforcement. He cited a past negative experience with police as the reason he attempted to flee.
