Tug Valley sweeps doubleheader over Van

NAUGATUCK, W.Va. — The Tug Valley Panthers swept the Van Bulldogs in a doubleheader Thursday at the Don Spence Field at Naugatuck.

The Panthers won the opener 10-0 and then the nightcap 9-5.

In the first game, Hayden Brumfield had two singles to lead TVHS. Gage White, Gavin Fitzpatrick, Dawson Richardson and C. Copley also had hits.

Senior hurler Austin Smith was the winning pitcher. Smith has eight strikeouts and only gave up two hits. He did not walk any Bulldog batters.

Tug Valley went ahead with a pair of runs in the second inning, then took command with six more runs in the third and scored two more in the fourth frame.

E. Moore took the loss for Van on the mound.

In the second game, the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Panthers answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.

Van went ahead 5-4 with four runs in the third inning, but Tug Valley battled back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead and eventually pull away with the win.

Whitt and Copley belted doubles to lead the offense for TVHS. Richardson, Fitzpatrick, Jacob Jones and Parker Kelly also had base hits for the home team.

Jones got the win on the mound for TVHS in relief. Fluty started the game on the hill. Richardson and Copley also saw action on the mound in relief.

E. Davis took the loss for Van.
