Song of hope for Martin County

Sometimes a song is more than just music—it’s hope. That is what Oliver Anthony’s upcoming Rural Revival concert in Inez promises to be.

On May 17, our town will welcome an artist who understands the soul of rural America. Anthony is bringing visibility to our community that too often feels invisible.

This event is not about glitz or chart-topping fanfare. It is about connection—and saying to Martin County and all the forgotten places like it: You matter. Your stories matter. Your struggle is seen.

Our county has historically weathered more than its fair share—job loss, economic stagnation, failing infrastructure, floods. But we also have our grit. We pull each other from the mud, rebuild with sore hands and hurt feelings. We tend to show up for our neighbors.

Now with Anthony’s concert and the Rural Revival weekend, we get good music—and hope.

Let’s talk economics, too. Events like this have a ripple effect. Local artisans, restaurants, small businesses—many of whom operate on razor-thin margins—stand to benefit in real ways. If the recent Anthony concert in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, is any indication, vendors will sell out, eateries will be packed, and downtown Inez will revive.

This is real economic development.

Along with dollars and foot traffic, we will see hope.

Anthony’s commitment to small towns, his choice to skip stadiums in favor of Main Streets reminds us that rural places are still full of promise and people worth investing in.

From the veterans’ ride, concerts and courthouse talks to the Sunday worship onstage, the weekend is a movement.

We are still here. Still standing, still singing.

We commend everyone who has worked to bring this to life—Judge/Executive Lon Lafferty, the Tourism Commission, local officials, vendors and volunteers. And we thank Oliver Anthony and the Rural Revival Project for choosing us.

Martin County, let’s show the world what resilience looks like. May 17 cannot come soon enough.
