First Frontier Appalachian trailhead welcomes first visitors—all the way from Iowa

DEBORD — First Frontier Appalachian Trails (FFAT) officially welcomed its first visitors to the newly opened trailhead on Davella Road in Debord last week—and the guests made quite the trip to get there.

“This fine group of folks drove 11 hours from Iowa to come enjoy our trails,” said Lara Mitchell Pack of FFAT. “Don’t have to tell you all to throw your hand up if you see them. We were all raised to be welcoming. Great days ahead, youngens.”

Located at 3548 Davella Road, the trailhead marks a significant step for FFAT’s mission to grow outdoor recreation and tourism in eastern Kentucky. Riders can explore miles of rugged mountain terrain while supporting local businesses along the way.

Trail permits are available at several convenient locations: the trailhead itself, the Roy F. Collier Community Center in Inez, Cloud 9 on Airport Road in Debord, and Family Foods in Boonscamp. Prices are $25 for residents and $40 for non-residents. Children under 12 ride free. One-day passes cost $7, with three-day options available for $15.
