Mary Etta (Mundy) Maynard Obituary

Mary Etta (Mundy) Maynard
1944—2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Etta Maynard, beloved mother and mamaw, on April 8, 2025, at the age of 81. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family and friends.

Mary Etta was a loving mom, mamaw and friend, and was also a refined educator. She will always be remembered as “Ms. Maynard” by the many kids whom she helped learn to read at Tomahawk and Eden Elementary. Her greatest accomplishment of all, though, was being the mom and mamaw she was to her family. We were all honored to be hers.

Mary Etta Maynard was born Jan. 21, 1944, on Milo to the late Elizabeth (Hensley) Dalton and John Gudgell Mundy.

She is preceded in death by her parents, including her dad who raised her, James Earl Dalton; one son, Nathan Gail Maynard; two grandsons, Nathan James Maynard and Paul Jamison Harless; one granddaughter, Mary Destiny Paige Blackburn; her ex-husband Paul Maynard who she loved until the end; one brother, Gayle Carter; brothers-in-law James Maynard, Elmer Maynard, Leonard Maynard, Larry Maynard, Greg Maynard and Ronnie Johnson; and sisters-in-law Betty Johnson, Irene Marcum, Sharol Maynard and Kathy Pinson. She was also preceded in death by one of her lifelong best friends, Carolyn Moore Wilson.

Survivors include Mary Etta’s daughters, Elizabeth (Jeff) Fitch and Darlene Kitts, both of Tomahawk; grandchildren Tylar (Brianna) Harless and Kody Harless of Tomahawk, Jonathan (Ashley) Jackson of Inez and Brett (Samantha) Fitch of Lowmansville; great-grandchildren Waylon Harless, Skyanna and Indigo Jackson, and Bradley and Madison Dials. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Mary Carter, Debbie Brown and Connie Maynard. Mary also leaves behind a host of friends, including her other life-long friends Darlene Spence Jacobs, Sue Fannin, Shelby Horn, Michelle Shannon, Dana Copley, Connie Horn, Susan Fletcher and Rachel Kirk, along with a host of nieces and nephews, including Dewey, Carolyn and Glen Carter.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 12, 2025, in the chapel of Crum Funeral Home, Inez, with James Maynard officiating. Burial followed in the Stafford Cemetery in Tomahawk. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crum Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home of Inez.
