Local youth shine at MLB Pitch, Hit & Run competition

INEZ — Area youngsters showcased their baseball and softball skills at the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run event Sunday at Frank Horn Field. Approximately 50 participants competed for the chance to advance to the Cincinnati Reds team competition.

Several familiar faces emerged as champions.

Skyler Green claimed his second consecutive title in the 13/14-year-old baseball division. Harleigh Maynard also secured her second straight championship in the 13/14-year-old softball division.

Jonah Mills took the top spot in the 11/12-year-old baseball division. Kaylee Runyon claimed the top in the 11/12-year-old softball division.

Greyson Maynard secured the win in the 9/10-year-old baseball division.

Rylie Parks is a repeat champ after winning the 9/10-year-old softball division.

Braxton Porter was the winner in the 7/8-year-old baseball division, and Hensley Reed won the 7/8-year-old in softball.

Event organizer Kenny Maynard told the Mountain Citizen that all division winners will have the opportunity to compete for a spot on the Cincinnati Reds team at Great American Ballpark on Sept. 6.

All expenses for the trip to Cincy will be paid and the participants will receive tickets to the game that day.

If a local winner earns a spot on the Reds MLB Pitch, Hit & Run team, they will compete for a World Championship at Game 2 of the 2025 World Series.
