NAUGATUCK, W.Va. — It has been a tough start for the Tug Valley baseball team, but the team has been competitive under first-year head coach LeeAnn Blankenship.
Sherman 3, Tug Valley 2
Tug Valley held a 2-1 lead but lost a tough heart-breaker to Sherman on the road at Seth, W. Va.
Sherman’s Brady Perdue smacked a walk-off single to bring in the go-ahead run for the Tide.
The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Dawson Richardson had an RBI groundout.
Tug Valley’s Garrett Hensley cracked an RBI double to give his team a 2-1 lead.
Gage Whitt also had a two-bagger for TVHS and Chandler Copley had a single. Whitt took the loss on the mound.
Luke Tagliente got the win on the bump for Sherman. He, Avery Skeens and Elijah Jeffrey each had two hits for the Tide.
Wayne 5, Tug Valley 0
The Panthers played well against Class AAA Wayne but fell 5-0 on the road.
Gavin Fitzpatrick smacked a double for TVHS, while Dawson Richardson, Elijah Fluty and Hayden Brumfield all had singles.
Brady Dyer led the Pioneers with a pair of doubles.
Austin Smith pitched a complete game for Tug Valley but took the loss on the mound.
Dyer was Wayne’s starting and winning hurler.
Man 6, Tug Valley 1
The Man Hillbillies downed the Panthers of Tug Valley 6-1 in a home game at Naugatuck.
Austin Smith doubled in the loss for TV, while Jacob Jones had an RBI single. Gavin Whitt had the other base hit for the Panthers. TVHS committed five errors in the game.
Cody Walls had a double and a pair of RBIs to pace the Billies.
Gage Whitt hurled a complete game for TV but took the loss on the mound.
Cam Gerace was the winning pitcher for Man.
Logan 13, Tug Valley 0
The Tug Valley Panthers lost their home opener to the visiting Logan Wildcats, 13-0.
The Cats are a perennial Class AA power on the diamond in West Virginia.
Ivan Miller belted a 3-run homer for Logan to lead the way. McCormick Ilderton went 3-for-3 in the game. Logan used five different pitchers in the game. William Bryant was credited with the win on the mound.
Colton Copley took the loss for Tug Valley.
