Cards pick up three wins

INEZ — Martin County baseball picked up three wins in week 2 of the season. The Cards thwarted Pike Central 15-7, East Ridge 15-0 in a no-hitter and beat Tug Valley 10-3.

MC at Pike Central – On March 24 the Cards traveled to Pike County and came away with a 15-7 victory over the Hawks.

Chase Stacy went 1-2 at the plate and drove in three RBIs while being walked twice.

Crayson Lafferty and Aiden Horn also delivered each going 2-4 with two RBIs.

Damian Cheek was a perfect 2-2 batting. 

Blake Lemaster contributed with two hits in three at-bats. 

Ryan Stephens drove in two runs on one hit. Aidan Mann crossed home plate twice.

MC at East Ridge – Devan Maynard, Julian Stafford, and Caige Presley combined to throw a no-hitter against the Warriors on March 27. The Cards mercy-ruled East Ridge 15-0 in three innings with hot bats and the shutout on the mound.

Aiden Horn led the way for the Cardinals going 2-3 with a triple, three RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. 

Ryan Stephens went 1-2 with two RBIs and three runs. Eli Mills hit 1-2 with three RBIs and crossed home three times. Crayson Lafferty added a double and two RBIs batting 1-3. Hunter Moore was 1-3 with a run and a stolen base. Dylan Hale had a hit and put a run on the board for the Cards. Caige Presley went 1-for-2. Chase Stacy rounded the bases to tack on two for Martin County.

Maynard and Presley recorded two strikeouts in the no-hitter with Presley earning the win on the mound.

TV at MC — Martin County scored seven runs in the sixth inning Saturday to defeat Tug Valley 10-3 at Cardinal Stadium.

The Panthers got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first inning.

Martin County scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3 in the bottom of the fifth, then turned the game on its head in the sixth.

Knox Maynard pitched six innings and allowed five hits and three runs while walking two and striking out five. Dylan Hale pitched an inning in relief, striking out one.

Eli Mills led the way with two RBIs. He went 1-for-3 on the day and stole two bases. Chase Stacy, Aiden Horn, Blake Lemaster, Ryan Stephens, Hale, Aiden Mann and Hunter Moore all collected a hit for the Cardinals.

The squad will host Pikeville on Monday at 6 p.m.

The Cards hosted Letcher County Central on April 1. Details were not available at press time. They are set to host Pikeville on Monday at 6 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium.
