CITIZEN STAFF REPORT
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announced that driver licensing regional offices will now be open one Saturday per month, beginning this Saturday, April 5. Hours will be from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
KYTC notes that driver and permit testing services will not be available during Saturday hours.
Vision screening
As a reminder, Kentucky now requires a vision screening when renewing a driver’s license. These screenings are free of charge at any driver licensing regional office at the time of renewal. No appointment is necessary and the process takes less than one minute.
KYTC urges drivers to bring any corrective eyewear for the vision screening. Drivers who pass the screening may proceed with license renewal. Those who do not pass will receive a referral to a licensed vision specialist for further examination and any necessary corrective lenses.
REAL ID May 7
Beginning May 7, Kentuckians must be REAL ID compliant to board U.S. commercial flights and access military bases or federal facilities that require ID. Visit drive.ky.gov/Pages/IDocument-Guide.aspx for a list of documents you will need for a REAL ID.
