The Martin County High School Lady Cards started the softball season on the right foot with two wins at Phelps in a doubleheader March 17. They dropped a tough 10-0 loss to Prestonsburg on March 19.

“We picked up two wins in the first week of the season after battling the weather for most of the preseason,” Coach Boo Newsome said.

In game 1 at Phelps, Martin County pulled away for a 10-2 victory.

Bella Muncy, Reagan Horn and Zoie Hinkle each crossed home twice. Haley Robinson, Kelian Jewell, Alyssa Mullins and Hallee Preece scored a run each for the Lady Cards.

The second game was a 17-1 mercy in three innings.

Muncy, Robinson, Hinkle, Jayla Savage and Kaylee Phillips each put two runs on the board for Martin County.

Marlee Grayson, Bella Robinson, Karlee Gillam and Sophie Hinkle each scored.

“We’ve also learned a lot and have more opportunities to get better this season,” said Newsome. “I’m excited to see what this group accomplishes.”

Senior Kaylee Endicott is struggling with injuries but will provide a boost to the lineup with her return.

Kelian Jewell is looking to turn heads while the Lady Cards have a new addition in Zoie Hinkle after a stint in Johnson County.

Coach Newsome’s squad is loaded with talent in her juniors. Bella Muncy, Sophie Harless, Haley Robinson, Hallee Preece, Raegan Horn and Alyssa Mullins are poised leaders with power out on the diamond.

Sophomore Mia Fields makes her return to the dirt and Martin County, looking to make a splash this year.

The Lady Cards will host Mingo Central on Saturday at 10 a.m. The team was scheduled to play at Tolsia on Monday and at home Tuesday against East Ridge. Details were not available at press time.
