LENORE, W.Va. — The West Virginia State Police (WVSP) Williamson detachment is investigating a fatal deputy-involved shooting that occurred in Lenore in Mingo County.

The incident happened Friday evening in the Laurel Creek Road area.

WVSP says deputies with the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a suspect who threatened an officer with a firearm. The deputy fired a shot, striking the suspect.

The individual was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

WVSP is leading the investigation. No further information has been released.
