Betty Francis (Hardin) Monheimer
1937—2025
Betty Francis (Hardin) Monheimer, 87, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, while enjoying her annual snowbird visit to Clearwater Beach, Florida.
She was born May 15, 1937, in Inez, Kentucky, to William and Nollis (Cassady) Hardin.
Betty graduated from Inez High School and treasured her time as a cheerleader for the 1954 State Basketball Championship team. She then attended Eastern Kentucky University before earning a master’s degree from the University of Louisville.
Betty was retired from JCPS where she was a teacher and counselor for 30 years, making lifelong friends and impacting the lives of countless students.
Betty met the love of her life, Edward L. Monheimer Jr. at Eastern Kentucky University and the two of them enjoyed traveling, attending church, playing bridge and spending time with family and friends throughout their 64 years of marriage before Ed’s passing in 2021.
In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was welcomed to heaven by her brothers John Hardin and L.T. Hardin; sisters-in-law Mary Lou Hardin, Jo Ann Hardin and Virginia Hardin; brother-in-law Darrell Horn; and in-laws Edward L. Sr. and Leotha (Metzger) Monheimer as well as additional family members and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons Edward L. Monheimer III (Carol) and David Bryan Monheimer; cherished grandchildren Edward L. Monheimer IV (Kate), David Tucker Monheimer, William Riley Monheimer and Katie Grace Monheimer; former daughter-in-law Mary Meredith; great-granddaughters Bailey Elise and Hannah Olivia Monheimer as well as their sister, Gabrielle Rose, who Betty was looking forward to meeting in May. She is also survived by two brothers William ‘Mug’ Hardin of Tomahawk and Shelley Hardin of Inez and one sister Lois Jean Horn of Inez.
Betty loved to travel and spend time with friends, but her family was always her top priority. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would frequently share stories about each of them with a beaming glow on her face, especially while enjoying the sunshine with her friends at the beach. Betty was a die-hard Kentucky Wildcats fan, rarely missing a game, whether it be with treasured tickets, on television, or by traveling to watch the team throughout the country.
A celebration of Betty’s life took place Monday, March 3 at Lyndon Baptist Church (8025 New LaGrange Road, Louisville and via livestream at lyndonbaptist.com).
In light of Betty’s strong roots to Eastern Kentucky, in lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund (online or 500 Mero Street 218NC, Frankfort, KY 40601).
