Tug Valley Panthers run past Logan Wildcats

NAUGATUCK, W.Va. — Tug Valley got a convincing win over Class AA Logan 83-64 to end the regular season March 4 at the Panthers’ home gym at Naugatuck.

The Class A No. 1-ranked Panthers close out the regular season with a great 20-2 record. They have a 16-game winning streak heading into regional tournament play.

Junior all-state point guard Braydun Ferris led Tug Valley with 25 points. He also dished out a game-high eight assists.

All-Stater Kaden Hale, a senior, fired in 21 points for Coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson’s squad. Meanwhile, junior Carson Newsome scored 15 points for TV, Bryson Elia scored eight, Ethan Ferrell added seven, Ashton Davis chipped in five and Derek Jewell contributed two.

The Panthers shot a hot 61% from the floor, including 5-9 from behind the arc for 56%. They were 6-7 from the free-throw line for 86%.

Once again Tug Valley had a balanced scoring attack.

“They whipped the ball around and ran the floor,” Thompson said. “They are unselfish and play hard.”

The defense also forced 16 turnovers against the Wildcats.

Logan, coached by Mark Hatcher, was ranked No. 4 in Class AA.

Logan Lambert and McCormick Ilderton scored 15 each to lead Logan. Their teammates Zay Sherrod and Ivan Miller both got into double digits with 10.
