
INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk’s Office reported the following arrests:

Chris Maynard, 42, of Lovely, was arrested Feb. 20 on Little Peter Cave Road in Lovely on a complaint warrant. Deputy Kidd made the arrest.

Trevor Jude, 27, of Louisa, was arrested Feb. 18 at Dempsey Housing in Warfield for assault (domestic violence) causing minor injury.
Deputy Kidd was conducting traffic enforcement near the complex when a woman approached and reported an ongoing altercation at Apartment 20D, authorities said. The woman told officers the victim was on the phone with her at the time.
When officers arrived, they found the apartment in disarray, officials said. The woman inside told police that Jude had damaged the home and struck her in the head with a candle. She said the altercation began after Jude accused her of “cheating” on Facebook and became angry after looking through her phone, authorities said.
Three young children, ranging in age from five months to six years, were inside the apartment during the incident, officials said.

Curtis Mullins, 49, of Columbus, Ohio, was arrested Feb. 17 on Davella Road in Debord for second-degree assault (domestic violence).
Deputy Kenny Maynard responded to a residence on Davella Road where a woman told authorities that Mullins had been arguing with her. When she attempted to hug him, he struck her on the right side of the face with a closed fist, she told officers. The woman said she feared for her life, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies observed an injury on the right side of the woman’s face, along with a bleeding busted lip and a cut on her tongue, officials said.

Aaryn Muncy, 20, of Pikeville, was arrested Feb. 14 in Lovely on two bench warrants. Deputy Kidd served the warrants.

Joann James, 33, of Prestonsburg, was arrested Feb. 14 on Collins Creek Road in Warfield for theft by unlawful taking or disposition of property valued at $500-$10,000, possession of controlled substance first degree, operating a motor vehicle with expired operator’s license, possession of marijuana.
Sheriff John Kirk and special deputies Kenny Maynard and J.C. Kirk responded to a report about stolen phone cable on Collins Creek Road. They discovered a vehicle with several hundred feet of cable hanging from its trunk hook, according to the sheriff’s office.
James was operating the vehicle, and authorities determined that she and three passengers in her car had taken the cable from Collins Creek, the sheriff said.
During the investigation, officers found a baggie containing a white powder-like substance in James’s pants pocket, as well as a small amount of marijuana in her car, officials said.
Authorities said that three passengers in the vehicle were also arrested.



Cindy Lee Estepp, 45, of Fort Gay, West Virginia; Jeffery Scott Spaulding, 42, also of Fort Gay; and Michael Glenn Spaulding, 43, of Prestonsburg, all were in the car with James. They were arrested on a charge of theft by unlawful taking or disposition of property valued between $500 and $10,000.

Jason Fields, 40, of Inez, was arrested Feb. 13 on Johnson Bottom Road in Inez for operating on a suspended operator’s license, no insurance and no registration.


Josh Scott, 38, and John Allen, 38, both of Debord, were arrested Feb. 12 on Setser Branch Road in Inez for receiving stolen property valued at $1,000-$10,000.
Deputy Kidd and Sheriff Kirk responded to an anonymous tip about the two males loading cut and stolen phone lines on Davella Road and heading to Setser Branch. Sheriff Kirk located the two in a truck with several hundred feet of cut phone line in the back. AT&T identified the phone line as belonging to them.
Scott is also facing a parole violation charge.

Michael D. Mills, 26, of Lovely, was arrested Feb. 11 on Riverfront Road in Lovely for fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), failure of non-owner/operator to maintain required insurance and reckless driving.
Deputy J.C. Kirk reported observing Mills driving on Route 292 with a headlamp out and in a reckless manner. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, Mills failed to pull over despite police lights and sirens, authorities said.
According to the police report, Mills eventually turned into a driveway, but not before someone tossed a baggie from the vehicle onto the roadway. Officers later recovered the bag, which contained a substance believed to be methamphetamine, officials said.

Cody Gene Spears, 29, of Lovely, was arrested Feb. 11 on Riverfront Road in Lovely for possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
Spears was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Michael D. Mills when Deputy J.C. Kirk attempted a traffic stop for a headlamp violation and reckless driving, authorities said. The vehicle failed to stop, and during the pursuit, a baggie containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine was thrown from the car, officials said.
When officers later searched the vehicle, they found a loaded handgun beside the driver’s seat, within Spears’s reach, authorities said.

Deric Lee Gibson, 27, of Kermit, West Virginia, was arrested Feb. 11 on Riverfront Road in Lovely for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
Gibson was a back-seat passenger in a vehicle driven by Michael D. Mills when Deputy J.C. Kirk attempted a traffic stop for a headlamp violation and reckless driving, authorities said. The driver failed to stop, leading officers on a brief pursuit before pulling into a driveway and turning off the vehicle’s lights, officials said.
During the incident, someone tossed a baggie containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine from the car, according to the sheriff’s office. When questioned, Gibson, the driver, and another passenger all denied ownership of the drugs and said they had not seen anything, authorities said.
