Russell Harold Johnson

1954—2025

Russell Harold Johnson, 71, of Fort Gay, West Virginia, passed away Feb. 11, 2025.

He was born Jan. 11, 1954, to the late Russell Johnson and Marie Marcum.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sisters Joyce Ann Martins, Linda Kay, Carolyn, brother Charles Glen, son Russell Harold Johnson Jr. and grandson Dylan Lee Allman.

He worked in the coal mines and at a cotton mill. He was a Christian of the Baptist faith.

Russell is survived by his loving wife of 40 plus years, Tennessee (Tennie) Messer Johnson; daughters Jenny (Justin Allman) Johnson from Fort Gay, West Virginia, Lucinda (Lee) Moore of Ashland and Bonnie Lewis from Huntington, West Virginia; grandchildren Nathaniel Lewis, Emma Lewis, Lucy and Emily Ward, Ryan and Lucas Allman; brothers Jr (Deb) Brewer (Eli), Eugene (Candee) Marcum, Janie Kay and Charley Bragg; sisters Shirley and Earsel Sias, and Wilma Toppins; and a host of extended family and friends.

Services were conducted Feb. 15, 2025, at Mullins Family Funeral Home, Warfield, with Brent Sias officiating. Burial followed at Rest High on the Mountain in Genoa, West Virginia. Mullins Family Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
