DINGESS, W.Va. — Authorities are investigating the discovery of human remains in the Dingess area of Mingo County, officials said.

The Mingo County Sheriff’s Department received a report around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday and dispatched deputies to the scene. After confirming the remains were human, they requested assistance from the West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team.

Investigators have remained at the site as the inquiry continues.
