Martin County Youth Wrestling battles at state duals

LAGRANGE — Four grapplers from Martin County Youth Wrestling took to the mats Sunday at the KYUSAW State Duals to face off against some of the top programs in the state. The event took place at Oldham County High School.

Martin County opened action with a determined effort against Derby City Legends. Lukas Mays (50-Y) secured the team’s first win with an 11-2 major decision over Emma Shirley. Jeremiah Vanhoose (70-Y) followed up with a commanding 10-2 major decision over Jace Kaufmann, while Greyson Maynard (75-Y) earned a solid 6-0 decision over Alyssa Meiller.

In the next round, Martin County found its rhythm against Southwestern Wrestling Club. Mays (50-Y) dominated Dean Winchester with a 19-3 technical fall, securing a strong start for the team. Vanhoose (70-Y) delivered a thrilling 57-second pin over Andre Hamblen, giving Martin County much-needed momentum. Maynard (75-Y) continued his winning streak, edging out Zander Upchurch in a hard-fought 13-11 decision.

Martin County got key performances against Meade County Youth. Jeremiah Looney (60-Y) made a statement with a swift 40-second pin over Ethan Rice. Jeremiah Vanhoose (70-Y) followed suit with an even faster pin, taking down Ryder Brooks in just 15 seconds. Greyson Maynard (75-Y) dominated with an 18-2 technical fall over Xander Keen. In a hard-fought match at 108-Y, Jeffrey Looney added to Martin County’s tally with an 8-4 decision over Jeriko Wise. Lukas Mays (50-Y) continued his standout day, securing another technical fall victory, this time over Tobin Whobrey with a 20-5 score.

The Cardinals went against North Hardin Youth in a challenging match. The team saw standout performances with Greyson Maynard (75-Y) pinning Marcello Green in just 56 seconds. Jeffrey Looney (108-Y) battled hard to secure an 8-5 decision over Lucas Goldacker. Lukas Mays (50-Y) once again showcased his dominance, pinning Jaxen Graff in 1:19.

Martin County wrapped up the competition with a strong effort against Oldham County. Jeremiah Vanhoose (70-Y) earned a commanding 10-0 major decision over Benny MacWilliams. Greyson Maynard (75-Y) made quick work of Thomas Manning, pinning him in just 38 seconds. Lukas Mays (50-Y) closed out his tournament performance in style, securing a 35-second pin over Ryker Chastain.
