Creasie Cassady

1927—2025

Creasie Cassady, 97, of Ashland, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2025, at King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Creasie was born May 12, 1927, in Inez to Frank and Bessie Porter.

In 1961, she moved to Ashland with her husband and their three children, where she built a life rooted in hard work and family. She spent over 30 years as a manager at Dollar General, working tirelessly until her retirement. Never one to stay idle, she later returned to work and continued until the age of 82.

Creasie had a deep love for gardening, maintaining a large garden well into her 80s. She also found joy in fishing, working on puzzles and cheering on the Atlanta Braves.

She is survived by her daughter, Antha, as well as six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved as if they were her own children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her son and one daughter, as well as her seven brothers and sisters.

A life well-lived, Creasie will be remembered for her strength, generosity and unwavering love for her family.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at the Callaham Funeral Home in Inez, with Roger Harless officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
