Eden dominates District Governor’s Cup

INEZ — The battle for academic supremacy in Governor’s Cup District 116 came to a close this weekend, with Eden Elementary emerging as the undisputed powerhouse.

Warfield Elementary hosted the event at Martin County High School.

Facing stiff challenges from Inez Elementary, Warfield Elementary and W.R. Castle, the students of Eden proved their mettle across multiple disciplines, sweeping Overall, Quick Recall and Future Problem-Solving titles.

Quick Recall: Eden takes the crown

In the fast-paced Quick Recall competition where teams tested their knowledge under pressure, Eden Elementary took the crown, followed by Inez, Warfield and W.R. Castle.

Future Problem-Solving: Eden wins

The trend continued in Future Problem-Solving, with Eden again claiming the gold followed by the same three schools finishing in identical order.

Mathematics: A tight race

Numbers took center stage in the mathematics division, with Keilin Whitten (Eden Elementary) clinching first place. Jayce McCoy (Inez Elementary) and Trey Schmidt (Inez Elementary) followed closely behind while Jaxon Maynard (Eden) and Lyric Howell (Eden) rounded out the top five.

Science: Inez breaks through

Inez Elementary scored a major win in the Science category as Isom Ritchie took home first place. Eden’s Peyton Crum and Gavin Kushto secured second and third, with Jackson Castle (W.R. Castle Memorial Elementary) and Joseph Golden (Warfield Elementary) completing the leaderboard.

Social Studies: Muncy leads the pack

History, geography, and current events saw Eden Elementary dominating once again, with Deacon Muncy taking first place. Beckam Spaulding (Eden) followed in second, while Inez’s Liam Burke and Jayce McCoy took third and fourth. Warfield’s Payton Harmon rounded out the top five.

Language Arts: Stafford on top

In the Language Arts competition, Eden’s Paige Stafford captured first place, followed closely by teammate Peyton Crum. Jesse Paxton (Warfield) took third, while Eden’s Gavin Kushto and Warfield’s LoriAnna Parks claimed fourth and fifth.

Arts & Humanities: Eden continues streak

Creativity and culture were on full display in the Arts & Humanities category, with Keilin Whitten (Eden) again claiming first place. Easton Blankenship (Eden) finished second, while Emma Nichols (Warfield) and LoriAnna Parks (Warfield) tied for third. Eden’s Deacon Muncy secured the fifth spot.

Composition: Williams takes gold

Writing prowess proved key in the Composition contest, with Blaine Williams (Eden) securing first place. Eden’s Paige Stafford and Skylin Fitch followed in second and third. Kayden McCoy (Inez) and Lainey Davis (Inez) rounded out the top five.

Final Standings: Eden reigns

After dominating across categories, Eden Elementary took home the overall championship, with Inez Elementary finishing second, Warfield Elementary in third, and W.R. Castle Memorial Elementary in fourth.

Both Eden and Inez will advance to regional competition.
