Make it five in a row for the red hot Cards

INEZ — The Martin County High School boys are on a five-game win streak after defeating Shelby Valley twice and Rowan County last week.

The Cardinals rolled over Shelby Valley 87-54 at home on Dec. 17. On Thursday, they traveled to Rowan County to play in the 2024 Stockyards Bank Challenge, escaping the tournament host 72-70.

Martin County returned to Rown County on Saturday and handily took down Shelby County 86-46.

Below is a recap of the week’s action.

MC vs Shelby Valley – Martin County forced 30 turnovers and dished out 16 assists in an 87-54 win over Valley at home on Dec. 17. Two Cardinals recorded a double-double on the night.

Parker Watts fired in 26 points and had 10 rebounds. He handed out three assists and had four blocks.

Bryson Dials flipped in 16 points and had 10 steals. He pulled five boards off the glass and had three assists.

Peyton Davis scorched the nets with 19 points on three made from behind the arc. He had six rebounds, five assists, and four steals.

The workhorse down in the paint, Brayden Estep, was just shy of a double-double with 11 rebounds and eight points. He recorded two steals, dished out an assist, and blocked one at the rim.

Martin County’s QB1 Devan Maynard finished the evening with 11 points and seven rebounds. He hit 5-7 from the charity stripe.

Eli Mills chipped in with seven points, four rebounds, and three steals.

MC vs Rowan County – The Cards lit up the nets with 15 made 3-pointers in their 72-70 win over Rowan County on Thursday.

Parker Watts and Bryson Dials were on fire for 25 and 24 points, respectively.

Watts finished with eight rebounds, three assists, and a block.

Dials was 6-11 from behind the arc. He pulled down five boards, dished out three assists, and picked two pockets.

Sharpshooter Peyton Davis continued to hit the three-ball when he nailed four on the night. He pulled down four rebounds and had an assist.

Cardinal glass cleaner Brayden Estep hit double digits on the boards with 12. He had two points, steals, and assists.

Eli Mills hit a three-pointer and finished with five points, four steals, and an assist.

Devan Maynard had three rebounds and dished out an assist. Alan Moore pulled a rebound down.

MC vs Shelby County – Shelby County was no match for the Cards on Saturday. Bryson Dials hit five from deep to finish with 23 points and five rebounds to give Martin County the 86-46 win.

Peyton Davis hit 4-6 from beyond the arc to finish with a blistering 22 points and six rebounds. He shot over 81% on the night.

Parker Watts hit his second double-double of the week with 15 points and 10 boards.

Brayden Estep has pulled down at least 10 rebounds in every game this season for the Cards and this one was no different with 10 again. He chipped in with six points.

Alan Moore flipped in six points and pulled three off the glass.

Young gun Brayden Marcum came off the bench for five points. Chase Hinkle hit a shot from behind the 3-point line.

Aiden Armstrong, Aiden Copeland, and Eli Mills each scored a bucket. Copeland and Mills also brought down a rebound. Jaxson Pack cleaned one off the glass.

The Cards will travel to Sunlake, Florida, on Dec. 27 to play a few games over the course of the week.

Martin County will have a big district matchup at Johnson Central on Jan. 3.
