Lady Cards go 2-2

INEZ — The Lady Cards picked up a big district win against the Magoffin County Hornets on Dec. 17 in Inez. Three players hit double digits en route to a 60-36 win.

The team then traveled to Lexington to play in the White, Greer, and Maggard Holiday Classic over the extended weekend. Martin County defeated Lexington Catholic 56-40. Ryle and Knox Central came away with the wins over the Cards.

Martin County jumped out to a 13-8 lead on Magoffin in the first quarter and never looked back.

Brooke Marcum led the way with 15 points. Chloe May followed up with 13 points with four shots from behind the arc.

Sophie Harless hit double digits with 10 points. Maci Maynard netted six points.

MaKenna Marcum hit for five points. Senior Candace Spaulding and Annaleigh Davis finished with four points. Caylee Moore scored a bucket and Desirae Gullett added a point.

In a game that saw 10 lead changes and five ties, the Cards prevailed against Lexington Catholic behind 17 points from Brooke Marcum. She finished with three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Martin County saw themselves down 14-11 to end the first quarter.

The Cards outscored Lexington Catholic 29-12 in the second half.

The Lady Cards outrebounded their opponent 37-32 with Sophie Harless pulling down 10 of those. She finished with two points, three steals and three assists.

Martin County’s brick house Maci Maynard collected a double-double on the night with 14 rebounds and 12 points. She also had three blocks, assists and steals.

Chloe May hit two three-pointers on her way to scoring eight points. She had two rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Candace Spaulding dropped in seven points along with three rebounds, an assist and two steals.

Makenna Marcum also netted seven points and had a steal.

Annaleigh Davis hit a shot from beyond the arc for three points. She pulled down a board and had one steal.

The Lady Cards will travel to Florida during the Christmas break for tournament games and a trip to Disney.

They will play in the All “A” tournament versus East Ridge on Jan. 4 at the Appalachian Wireless Arena in Pikeville.
