CITIZEN STAFF REPORT
INEZ — The Martin County Board of Education honored the Martin County High School football team and coaching staff ahead of Monday night’s meeting. The team capped off the season as district and region runners-up.
Head Coach Josh Muncy expressed gratitude to the board and Superintendent Larry James.
“Our guys have been working hard,” Muncy said. “I feel like we have transitioned from a team to a program. We’re on the same page at every level in Martin County, from youth and middle school all the way up to high school. I’ve been around long enough now that some of the guys coming into high school, I watched them play on the third and fourth, fifth and sixth, and middle school. I’m watching them grow into our program. It’s a good time to be a football player in Martin County and I’m excited.”
Superintendent James commended Muncy for his “excellent” leadership, pointing out that the team had graduated several seniors last year.
“It was supposed to be a rebuilding year,” Muncy said. “We had young guys step up and fill spots that we needed them to, and they did a great job.”
