Lewis ‘Cotton’ Lee Maynard
1947— 2024
Lewis Lee Maynard, aka “Cotton,” 77, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2024.
He was born May 15, 1947, a son of the late Jesse and Ethel (Muncy) Maynard.
Cotton was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam. He was a respected member and leader of the Inez Church of Christ and a longtime businessman in Inez.
Cotton passed honorably after a long illness while being surrounded and comforted by family at his home in Richmond.
Cotton was a devoted Christian, a loving husband, an excellent father/grandfather and a decent fisherman. He was a caring, generous, loving example of a man who will be missed greatly. His memory will be cherished by those fortunate to have shared in his walk on this earth.
In addition to his parents, Cotton is preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Moore, Martha Crum, Garnett Young and Norma Jean Hall, and brothers Monroe, Jesse (Junior), Herbert, Russell and Bennie Maynard.
Cotton leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Lynn (Blankenship) Maynard, who he cherished dearly. He also leaves behind daughters Amy Reed and Traci (Franklin) Patrick, both of Richmond; son Gary Reed of Lexington; grandchildren Jeramie (Noelani) Reed of Miami, Florida, and Tyler Reed, Lynsey and Josie (Aren) Patrick of Richmond; brother Danny (Etta) Maynard of Lancaster; sister Maggie (Jimbo) Marcum of Inez; and sister-in-law Karen (Jerry) Tramel of Inez. He is also survived by a close family friend and caretaker, Ta’mira Va’a of Lexington.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Inez Church of Christ, with his nephew James Russell Maynard officiating. Burial followed at the Mountain Valley Memorial Garden.
