INEZ — Cold temperatures did not stop hundreds of Christmas in the Mountains revelers from convening in downtown Inez for the weeklong celebration from Dec. 1 to 7.
Students from area schools braved the cold to enjoy exclusive carnival privileges throughout the week.
“A Walk to Bethlehem,” an outdoor theatrical production presented by area churches, did not let the chill get in the way Friday night as it drew a considerable crowd.
The second annual trek included stops in the marketplace to ask innkeepers if they had room for Joseph and Mary. Walkers started at Golden Memorial Church and went to the StoryWalk, with singing along the way and a live Nativity scene revealing the baby Jesus. The walk featured live barnyard animals, wise men and angels.
A temperature rise on Saturday welcomed visitors to a day full of carnival attractions, ice skating, zip-lining, live music and parades.
The Christmas in the Mountains committee, in conjunction with the Martin County Tourism Commission, put on the event.
Organizers encourage folks to come to Inez to see the lights and displays throughout December.
They invite everyone to attend the Angel Breakfast this Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Martin County Public Library-Collier Center. The event offers a free breakfast, music and crafts.
