Debra Lynn (Marcum) Hammond Obituary

Debra Lynn (Marcum) Hammond
1956—2024

Debra Lynn (Marcum) Hammond, age 68, of Inez, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 4, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio, where she lived with her daughter. She has been under the care of OhioHealth Hospice with Compassus Hospice at home since September of this year.

Born Oct. 25, 1956, in Louisa, she was the daughter of the late Henry (HB) and Alta Mae (Endicott) Marcum.

In addition to her parents, Debbie is preceded in death by her loving husband Ernie (Weasle) Hammond, who went to be with the Lord in June 2017, and many others.

Debbie leaves behind three children, Israel (Katrina Ward) Hammond of Sitka, Chastity (Steven) Page of Inez and BobbieSue (Bryan) Stevens of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Michelle (Tommy) Marcum; and Angie Wells, who was not her biological sister, but to Debbie she was. She also leaves behind four grandchildren whom she loved more than anything and was so very proud of them all: grandsons Cody Lee (Paige) Hammond, Corey Ray (Kynzie) Hammond, granddaughters Santanna Raelyn Jude and Destiny Faith Stevens, and great-grandchildren Isabella, Wrenly, Maddie, Brixxon, Ruthie and Tucker.

Debbie didn’t get to spend time with them all due to her health, but she always saved pictures and bragged to everyone who cared for her at one point or another just how beautiful and precious they were.

Debbie’s health took a turn for the worse in 2022 when we learned of the heart disease she was diagnosed with and the severity of COPD. Debbie loved and served the Lord. She enjoyed her role in babysitting Ruthie and Tucker every day with BobbieSue and Israel. She loved watching videos of Brixxon singing and Isabella cheering. Anything that involved all of her grandbabies (except throwing a fit), she was always eager to watch.
Debbie loved her family, and she will be missed terribly. Please pray for her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, at New Friendship United Baptist Church with Michael Marcum officiating. Burial followed at the Buffalo Horn Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home of Inez.
