Martin County grand jury delivers five indictments

Meth, missed court dates, and an ATV chase fuel charges

INEZ — A Martin County grand jury delivered a quintet of indictments Thursday. From an alleged ATV chase to alleged meth-filled pockets and broken court dates, here is the rundown:

Jerry Thomas Spence

Jerry Thomas Spence, 47, of Kermit, West Virginia: Spence is up against charges of first-degree fleeing/ evading police, driving under the influence of alcohol/ drugs (first offense within 10 years), all-terrain vehicle violations and reckless driving. The grand jury says that on Sept. 23, Spence ignored all the flashing lights and signals while Constable Brad Preece attempted to arrest him. Spence’s offense list includes piloting an ATV on Kentucky roadways, driving erratically, and DUI within five years of a conviction on the same charge. Martin Circuit Judge J. Kevin Holbrook set the going rate for his bail at $5,000.

Frankie Maynard

Frankie Maynard, 48, of Pilgrim: Meth and accessories, a grim starter pack, got Maynard charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and drug paraphernalia possession, the indictment states. When police caught up with him Oct. 5, he reportedly had meth, eight syringes and two altered straws. His bail is $5,000.

Lucille Mills

Lucille Mills, 48, of Warfield: Mills is facing charges of meth possession, drug paraphernalia possession and second-degree possession of Buprenorphine (suboxone). When police arrested her Jan. 30, the haul allegedly included meth, a modified glass pipe and six units of suboxone, the indictment states. Her freedom, like the others, is a $5,000 bail.

Keith Wiley

Keith Wiley, 34, of Inez: Call it the art of not showing up. Wiley is looking at a charge of first-degree bail jumping after deciding Sept. 19 was not the day for a sentencing hearing. Released on the promise that he would show up, Wiley vanished instead. His bail is $5,000.

Doris Strickland

Doris Strickland, 49, of Lovely: Strickland’s first-degree bail jumping charge alleges she ghosted a pretrial conference Nov. 21. Her price for bail is $5,000.
