Thanksgiving of gratitude for 49 years of service to Martin County

Thanksgiving reminds us of all we hold dear: our families, our friends, our communities, and the traditions that unite us. Here at the Mountain Citizen, this particular time of year carries an even deeper significance. It is a time to reflect and express gratitude to our readers and supporters for allowing us the privilege of serving Martin County since August 1975.

For nearly five decades, the newspaper has been a mirror reflecting the triumphs, challenges and spirit of our community. From the milestones that have shaped us to the moments that bind us, our staff have worked to provide honest coverage that serves the public interest. Each story written, each photo taken, and each page printed is a chronicle of commitment.

As we look back, we are also mindful of Thanksgiving 1990 when the current owners took the reins of this publication. Over these 34 years, it has been our great honor to carry forward this tradition. The opportunity to raise the voices of Martin County, shine a light on important issues and celebrate remarkable people is a responsibility we cherish. It has been a labor of love inspired by our incredible community.

We are profoundly grateful to you, our readers, advertisers and supporters, for standing with us through the years. Your trust has fueled our passion, your stories have given us purpose, and your encouragement has carried us through challenges.

We are also grateful for a talented newspaper team—past and present—who have dedicated themselves to ensuring the Mountain Citizen remains a trusted news connection.

This Thanksgiving, as we gather with loved ones and give thanks for life’s blessings, we want to express our deepest gratitude for Martin County. Together, we are extraordinary—a shared story that continues to unfold with every issue we publish.

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives and for being such an integral part of ours. Here is to the past 49 years and to the future that awaits. May your Thanksgiving be filled with joy, reflection and the warmth of community.

With gratitude,
The Mountain Citizen
