CITIZEN STAFF REPORT

INEZ — Art students at Martin County High School recently participated in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s second annual statewide “Paint the Plow” program to promote safe driving during snow and ice season.

The students, under the guidance of art teacher Mary Ann Farley, painted one of District 12’s snowplow blades.

They collaborated to create a design that won approval by District 12 staff. Then they worked on the 12-foot-by-4-foot blade, striving to complete it before winter weather and the Nov. 8 deadline.

Their design features a clear message: “DRIVE SLOW ON WINTER ROADS.”

One side of the plow displays a snowman, while the other shows the Martin County High School mascot, “Big Red,” in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer mode. The MCHS Cardinal sports antlers and a bright red nose to help lead the plow safely through winter weather.

The top of the plow proudly reads “Martin County High School” in bold red letters.

Farley extended thanks to Dr. Michelle Harless for supporting the student participation in the program, Evans Hardware employees for ensuring students used the correct paints, and the students for their work in bringing the design to life.
