Martin County High School’s JV academic squad clinched second place overall at the KAAC Section 13 JV Challenge hosted Saturday at Johnson Central High. The Cardinals — Ella Lawson, Blake Stacy, Garrett Lowe and Zack Maynard — also claimed silver in Quick Recall.

They topped Lawrence County, Prestonsburg and The Millard School but lost to Johnson Central.

Individually, the team racked up impressive wins.

Lawson took second in Composition and a solid fourth in Arts & Humanities.

Stacy scored fourth in Math and tied for fourth in Social Studies.

Lowe rounded out the winnings with fifth-place finishes in both Math and Science.

Head coach Ken Osborne and assistant coach Machelle Ray were beaming with pride.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our team’s performance at the JV Challenge,” Ray shared. “Our students showed incredible dedication, teamwork and resilience, placing second overall and in Quick Recall. Each of them brought their unique strengths, and their individual achievements speak to the hard work they’ve put in. It’s exciting to see their passion for learning pay off, and I’m looking forward to what they’ll accomplish next.”
