Claude ‘Buddy’ Moore
1943—2024
Claude “Buddy” Moore (also known as Hook n’ Beans), 80, of Crum, West Virginia, retired his cowboy boots and completed his life’s journey on Oct. 17, 2024, leaving behind an everlasting legacy.
Buddy was raised in the hills of Martin County, Kentucky, born Dec. 30, 1943, as the son of the late Johnny and Nancy (Jude) Moore.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant son, Henry Gabe Moore, and siblings Edna Spaulding, Sadie Brewer, Connie Moore, Bobby Moore and Joe Moore.
Buddy’s boots had many walks of life—from coal mining in the hills of West Virginia to tapping on the stage next to Dr. Ralph Stanley. Bluegrass was a passion that Buddy passed down to his children, grandchildren, nephews, family and friends.
Of all his passions in life, the greatest was his children, who he shared with the late Juanita (Marcum) Sammons: Debbie (John) Hannah, Margie (David) Wright, both of Crum, and Claude “BJ” Jr. (Vickie) Moore of Grey Eagle.
In addition to his children, he leaves behind his spouse, Helen Moore of Lawrence County, Kentucky, aunt Marie Jude of Martin County, Kentucky, sister Ruby Pauley of Columbus, Ohio, brother Terry Moore of Fort Gay, and stepchildren Dennie, Bennie, Minnie and Jay. Additional survivors include grandchildren Jonathan Claude, Christopher, Donnie, Kayla Juanita, Samantha, Ashley, Tabithia, Brett, Angel, Paige and Madison, 29 great-grandchildren who loved their “Poppy”/“Pawpaw Buddy,” and two special sisters-in-law, Brenda Spaulding and Lois Marcum.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, at the Church of God in Warfield, Kentucky. Burial will follow at the Moore Cemetery.
