INEZ — Martin County has finished the regular season with their best record in four years. The Lady Cards closed up pre-tournament play with an 8-6 record after smacking the Hornets 3-0 in Inez on Saturday. It is the first winning season since 2020.
The Cards flew by Magoffin in the first varsity set of the night with a 25-12 win.
Chloe May, Hallee Preece, Addison Kerr and Kristin Preece combined for 18 Cardinal points on the scoresheet. Raegan Horn and Chloe Jude brought in two each and Maci Maynard snatched one.
The second match saw a late surge push Martin County past the Hornets 25-20.
Martin County held Magoffin in the third set 25-17 to send them packing.
Junior K. Preece was ecstatic to see her team pull out the win.
“We had really good communication. We tried to make our passes and sets with a purpose and know where they would go,” she said. “We beat our record last year. As long as we keep up the teamwork and dedication I think we can do pretty good in the tournament coming up.”
Junior varsity pulled out a 21-14, 21-9 win in their match.
The 57th District tournament is scheduled for the next week. Drawings had not been announced at press deadline.
