Frankie L. Maynard

Frankie L. Maynard, 48, of Pilgrim, was arrested Saturday at the intersection of Riverfront Road and Kermit Bridge in Lovely for possession of a controlled substance, first degree and first offense (methamphetamine), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputy Justin Bellamy arrested Maynard at a traffic safety checkpoint around 11 p.m. Maynard was a passenger in a vehicle with Brandon Parsons, who did not have his operator’s license in his possession. During the investigation, officers noticed that both Maynard and Parsons appeared nervous. Parsons consented to a search of the vehicle and both individuals consented to personal searches.

Police discovered Maynard had a plastic bag containing white powder suspected of being methamphetamine in his shoe, along with another bag containing white powder residue, eight syringes in his sock and toot straws in his pocket. Maynard allegedly denied ownership of the suspected meth and advised that the driver gave it to him and told him to put it in his shoe as they were approaching the checkpoint. The driver denied these allegations.

Johnny M. Carter

Johnny M. Carter, 53, of Warfield, found himself in police custody Friday on a charge of first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) after a visit from law enforcement turned up more than just a missing phone.

It all went down at the Dempsey Housing complex in Warfield, where Chief Deputy Chris Kidd responded to a report of a stolen phone pinging near apartment 2C. By the time Kidd arrived, the phone had been returned, but the building manager had another issue: two alleged trespassers in the unit, both with active arrest warrants.

Carter, who lives in the apartment, admitted the pair had been there but stated they had already left.

As Kidd investigated, he caught a strong whiff of marijuana wafting through the apartment. Carter denied having any drugs, telling the officer, “You can look.” That search led Kidd to burned foil on the nightstand—something Carter insisted was not his. During a routine pat down, the deputy found a small baggie with crystal residue in Carter’s pocket. Carter reportedly said it was meth that he had forgotten all about it.
