According to the police report, Maynard advised that he and his ex-girlfriend Alisha Moore had argued and that Moore knocked his tooth out with a food can.

Moore had obvious minor injuries—bruising on both sides of her neck, red marks across her face and forehead and a cut behind her ear. Moore stated she and Maynard got into a verbal argument that became physical when he choked her. While he was choking her, he bit her forehead and threatened to “slit her throat.” She stated Maynard slapped her across her face.

The vehicle was loaded with various tools in the trunk and the back seat. Hayes admitted he was going to keep the tools for his personal use. He found various tools—Dewalt, Snap On and others, and took them, the sheriff said.
