INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk’s Office reported the following arrests:
William Earl Moore, 52, of Louisa, was arrested Monday on Old Route 3 after a brief pursuit for driving under the influence, operating with a suspended license, evading police, expired registration and failure to maintain insurance.
Moore’s run-in with the law began when Sheriff Kirk spotted him driving with dead tags. Knowing Moore’s license had been suspended, the sheriff flipped on his lights and siren, but Moore did not pull over. Instead, he sped into Lawrence County, leading the sheriff on a two-mile chase before finally stopping.
When Moore was apprehended, Sheriff Kirk noted a strong smell of alcohol and spotted an open beer in the cupholder. Moore allegedly admitted to downing four beers but refused both a sobriety test and a Breathalyzer. He reportedly stated he was not signing a refusal or anything else just to be taken to jail.
Janet F. Meade, 77, of Debord, was arrested Monday at her home on an indictment warrant out of Floyd County, where she faces charges of theft by deception for cold checks totaling $10,000 or more. Deputy Justin Bellamy made the arrest.
Amos R. Evans, 49, of Lovely, was arrested Sunday on Riverfront Road in Lovely for assault and first-degree strangulation. Deputies responded to a call about a domestic incident that was in progress at around 10 p.m. They arrived at the scene and found the caller, Charlotte Jude, and Evans in the driveway around their van, which was stuck. The officers separated the two and were informed that they were legally married.
According to Deputy Bellamy, Jude advised that the two had been in a verbal argument that turned physical when Evans grabbed her with his hands covering her chin and neck and began to choke her, impeding her breathing for approximately two minutes.
Evans allegedly then picked up a metal flashlight and began to bust the windshield out of her van. Afterward, he struck Jude on top of her head three times with the flashlight, authorities said.
Police noted Jude had a large knot on the top of her head and visible red marks on her face and chin.
Jude identified the flashlight used in the incident, which was located on the floorboard behind the passenger seat where Evans had been sitting.
Patriot EMS checked Jude. However, she refused transport to a hospital and stated she did not wish to file for an EPO, authorities said.
Damien AQ Bagut, 45, of Williamson, West Virginia, was arrested Sunday at the Kermit Bridge in Lovely for alcohol intoxication in a public place. Deputy Bellamy responded to a call that Bagut had been in an altercation with Crystal Browning at the Warfield Dairy Bar and left the scene on foot. Officers found him on the Kentucky side of the bridge and described him as having an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and red bloodshot eyes.
Xenia Marie Bowen, 25, of Lovely, was arrested Sunday on Sandlick Road in Debord for alcohol intoxication in a public place. Sheriff Kirk arrested Bowen following a report that she was at a residence on Sandlick trying to fight with the owner. The sheriff found Bowen passed out inside a car and the property owner stated they wanted her removed from the property.
Clancy Fields Jr., 53, of Lexington, was arrested Friday on Holty Road in Pilgrim for trafficking in a controlled substance (over 2 grams methamphetamine), drug paraphernalia-buy/possession, giving officers false identifying information, and a parole board violation.
The arrest followed a call about a stolen vehicle at 136 Holty Road. While deputies gathered details at the scene, the reported truck drove past the house. Officers spoke with Fields, a passenger, along with the driver, Patrick Gibbs. As it turned out, the vehicle was not stolen—Gibbs had permission to use it from the reporting party’s father. Despite that, Gibbs was taken in on two outstanding warrants.
The vehicle’s owner granted police permission to search the truck. When asked if he had any drugs, Fields first mentioned a marijuana roach but then pulled out a plastic bag containing a substance resembling meth.
Fields initially lied about his identity, providing the name and Social Security number of someone named Timothy White. Later he admitted to using false information. Officers then confirmed Fields had an active warrant for a parole violation.
Patrick Gibbs, 47, of Pilgrim, was arrested Friday on Holty Road on a bench warrants out of Barren and Floyd counties. Bellamy made the arrest.
Jason Pennington, 48, of Inez, was arrested Friday in Inez on a warrant from Martin Circuit Court. Deputy Chapman made the arrest.
