INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk’s Office reported the following arrests:
Brandon White, 38, of Williamson, West Virginia, was picked up Sept. 18 for public intoxication involving a controlled substance (not alcohol). Chief Deputy Chris Kidd made the collar.
Floyd Howell, 51, of Inez, was arrested Sept. 16, also for public intoxication related to a controlled substance (excluding alcohol). Howell’s brush with the law started when Deputy Kidd responded to Nichols Street on reports of a partially clothed male, possibly under the influence.
Upon arrival, Kidd found Howell leaning against a handrail, swaying unsteadily and drifting off. Howell’s slurred speech, trouble walking, and inability to recall where he lived completed the scene, authorities said.
Over on Coldwater Road, police arrested Bryan Moore, 54, of Inez, on Sept. 14 on two indictment warrants, again courtesy of Deputy Kidd.
James Long, 46, and Patricia L. Long, 43, both from Tomahawk, were arrested Sept. 13 for endangering the welfare of a minor.
Deputy Kidd arrived at the Longs’ Rockhouse Road residence to assist the Department of Social Services. He found trash in the yard, and inside, the floors covered with dog feces, rotting food and garbage. The home had an overwhelming odor of animal urine and feces, the officer said, and toilets were non-functional and filled with human waste.
Deputy Kidd reported there was no food in sight and the house had no running water or garbage service. Authorities placed three children—ages 17, 13, and 4—into protective custody.
Meanwhile, on Sept. 12, Timothy Wayne Roberts, 44, of Fort Gay, West Virginia, managed a brief escape following his arrest at Dempsey Housing in Warfield.
Roberts, wanted on a fugitive warrant from Wayne County, West Virginia, seized the opportunity to flee the booking room in Inez. Deputy Justin Bellamy recounted the incident: Roberts dashed out of the booking room when a jail transport officer momentarily opened the door of the controlled locked room to exit and take a phone call.
Roberts made it as far as the creek. He tumbled down the embankment, where deputies caught and brought him back into custody. He now faces additional charges of escape and fleeing or evading police.
Andre Leavell Pardue, 36, of Saint Albans, West Virginia, was arrested Sept. 11 in Inez on two warrants from Martin Circuit Court. Deputy Lindsay made the arrest.
Jeffrey A. May, 40, of Debord, was arrested Sept. 10 at the intersection of Beauty Road and Highway 292 in Warfield on a warrant out of Ross County, Ohio, where he faces a felony charge of aggravated possession of drugs. Deputy Bellamy also found May in possession of 5.5 grams of marijuana and rolling papers, leading to additional charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
