BETSY LAYNE — Head coach Boo Newsome took her Martin County Middle School Lady Cards to Betsy Layne on Thursday and came away with a 31-23 win.

Martin County has reeled off four straight after their opening season loss to improve to 4-1 on the season.

After Annaleigh Davis joined the 500-point club last week, she continues to tack on to her total.

Davis and Kennedy Mills opened up scoring in the first quarter with four points each. Bri Muncy added a bucket to knot the score at 10 apiece going into the following period.

Lexi Cline nailed a basket and Anna Hinkle dropped in a free throw before halftime. The Cards went to break with a 15-12 lead over the Bobcats.

Martin County went on a 10-4 run coming out of the locker room.

Davis added a 3-ball. Cline and Muncy stayed hungry for the Cards and put some points on the board. Zoe Sammons nailed one from the charity stripe.

With a 25-16 lead in the final period, Davis bucketed six points to hold off the Bobcats.

The 500-point club member led all scorers with 15 points.

Cline finished with six points. Mills and Muncy dropped in four each.

Hinkle and Sammons both had a point.

The Lady Cards were scheduled to host Mullins on Sept. 9. Details were not available at press time.
