Cards win Kentucky Farm Bureau Bowl

INEZ — Martin County’s home opener was nothing short of exceptional Friday. Devan Maynard rushed for five touchdowns in the 40-28 win over Shelby Valley to allow the Cards to claim the Kentucky Farm Bureau hardware.

Martin County improves to 2-1 on the season and Valley drops to 0-3.

The Cardinals had 374 total yards versus Shelby Valley’s 262.

Maynard rushed for 254 yards on 29 attempts and hit paydirt five times. The multifaceted quarterback was 5-12 on passing with 43 yards.

In a complete performance, he had an interception on the other side of the ball and ran it for 52 yards. Maynard had two total tackles on the night and also pulled off a two-point conversion.

Aiden Horn rushed 11 times for 52 yards.

Crayson Lafferty ran the pigskin eight times for 23 yards and a touchdown.

Chase Stacy caught a pass for a gain of 19 yards. Brayden Estep received two passes for 14 yards.

Julian Stafford and Weston Jude each pulled in a catch for 5 yards. Jude scored a two-point conversion for the Cardinals.

On the defensive side, Lafferty had 15 total tackles on the night. He pulled six Valley players by himself.

Jude brought down five Wildcats and had eight total tackles.

Julian Stafford pulled down four Shelby Valley players and Damian Cheek had two solo tackles.

Corey Parsley punched out a fumble and recovered.

Martin County will host Paintsville (1-2) on Friday in the Harvest Fest Bowl. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
