WABA provides opportunities for semi-pro players

INEZ — Three players of the OPB Swish were named Women’s American Basketball Association All-Stars over the weekend. Another OPB player, Dasia Thornton, signed an overseas contract to continue her professional career.

Martin County native Carla Booth will play for Team Supreme. Booth began organizing the team back in the winter. The combo guard is an All-American who played for Alice Lloyd College and Eastern Kentucky University. Booth graduated from Sheldon Clark High School and is a 15th Region Champ.

Former Kentucky Wildcat Makayla Epps played for the Chicago Sky in the WNBA. She and JaVonna Layfield will play for Dream Team.

The league will host a Final Four weekend Oct. 6 in Greensboro, North Carolina, where they will play in the All-Star game.

Thornton is a former Transylvania All-American who won a DIII National Title. She will play basketball in Albania for Partizani. 

The OPB Swish have a 6-2 record and made the playoffs in their first season in the WABA.
