INEZ — As the golf season gears up, we turn our attention to the senior members of the Martin County High School Cardinals and Lady Cardinals golf teams. Seniors Drew Wilson and Weston Jude are leading the Cardinals while senior Jaylee Deskins is spearheading the Lady Cards team.

Deskins, a steadfast member of the Lady Cards golf team for five years, also cheers for MCHS. Her extracurricular activities include the Pep Club, JAG, Yearbook and Journalism.

After high school, Deskins plans to pursue a career in the medical field.

She enjoys the movie “Anyone But You” and listens to hip-hop while driving the golf cart.

Her dream golf partners include Donald Trump, Adam Sandler and Scottie Scheffler.

Deskins admires her mother the most.

A humorous memory from her time on the team is when teammate Drew Wilson fell off the golf cart and rolled in the mud.

The pinnacle of her high school golf career was securing the individual runner-up spot in the All-A 15th Region Golf Tournament, earning her a spot at the state competition in Richmond.

Wilson, a three-year golf team veteran, also plays for the MCHS tennis team. He participates in the Pep Club, Beta Club, JAG, 4-H, FBLA, Yearbook and Journalism.

Post-graduation, Drew plans to major in broadcast journalism with a minor in business at the University of Kentucky.

He enjoys “Modern Family,” favors a 9-iron on the golf course, and likes listening to hip-hop while on the golf cart.

Drew’s ideal golf partners include Boo Newsome, Lance Tackett and Robin Newsome.

He holds his Nana in the highest regard.

A memorable moment from his golf experience involves his teammate Dovie accidentally driving a golf cart off a hill.

A highlight of his high school career was scoring a bogey on hole 17 at the PIT.

Though new to the golf team, Weston Jude has made a significant impact in his first year. He is also active in football, wrestling and fishing and is a member of the Pep Club and Senior Travel Club.

Jude plans to pursue a degree in health science in college. He enjoys the movie “The Patriot,” prefers his pitching wedge on the golf course, and likes listening to “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga while on the golf cart.

His dream golf companions would be George Jones, John Daly and Michael Jordan.

Jude looks up to his papaw the most.

A fun memory from his time on the team is stealing Drew Wilson’s snacks, but his favorite memory is enjoying Made to Crave after practice.

All three seniors are leaving their mark on the golf course and in the hearts of their teammates.
