INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk’s Office reported the following arrests:
Harlan Jude, 53, of Pilgrim, was arrested Tuesday on Big Peter Cave for public intoxication-controlled substance (excludes alcohol), menacing, resisting arrest, assault of a police officer, fleeing or evading police, and escape.
Chief Deputy Chris Kid responded to a call reporting a naked man standing in the yard screaming at the sky. When Kidd arrived, Jude was unclothed and shouting that he was god and would take everyone to hell. When he noticed the officer had arrived, he came into the road toward the cruiser, yelling he would take “both of us to hell.”
Jude became aggressive and the deputy deployed a Taser. According to Kidd, Jude pulled the prongs from his stomach and chest and fled on foot down the road with Kidd in pursuit. Jude subsequently turned and advanced on Kidd, who used soft and hard empty-hand techniques to restrain him. During the struggle, Jude transferred bodily fluids onto the deputy.
Outside the booking room in Inez, Jude slipped his handcuffs to the front and became combative. Officers subdued him and escorted the still-nude Jude into the building. He was cleared medically by EMS and transported to jail.
Joshua Thomas Staton, 41, of Tomahawk, was arrested Tuesday on Spence Branch for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia-buy/possession. Sheriff Kirk stopped Staton for crossing the center line three times within a quarter of a mile on Route 645. The sheriff noticed a pipe containing white residue on the floorboard inside Staton’s vehicle in plain view. Deputy Justin Bellamy arrived as backup and noted Staton had red, bloodshot eyes, was sweating profusely and appeared to be impaired.
Steve A. Marcum, 55, of Louisa, was arrested Tuesday on Spence Branch for criminal littering, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), drug paraphernalia-buy/possession, and tampering with physical evidence. Marcum was a passenger in a vehicle that Sheriff Kirk stopped. According to the Sheriff, Marcum tossed something out the window. Deputies found a small plastic baggie containing a clear crystal-like substance thought to be methamphetamine and a clear glass narcotic pipe containing residue on the ground within about 5 feet of the passenger side window. Marcum denied ownership of the items.
Alisha Nicole Moore, 39, of Lovely, was arrested July 31 on Riverfront Road for assault, fourth degree (domestic violence) minor injury. Sheriff Kirk was dispatched to Tammy Moore’s residence on Riverfront Road for an ongoing altercation. At the scene the sheriff spoke with Moore, who advised she fought with her daughter and that her mother jumped in the fight. Moore’s daughter, Santa Fields, stated Moore attacked her and that she had to fight back to defend herself. Fields said Moore put bruises on Tammy Moore, her mother. According to Fields, Alisha Moore grabbed Tammy Moore by the arms when Tammy Moore attempted to get her off Fields. The sheriff noted red places on Fields’ face and neck. Tammy Moore had bruises on both arms.
