MCDOWELL — The search for a man linked to a fatal fight in McDowell concluded at dusk Monday with Floyd County Sheriff’s deputies apprehending 41-year-old Michael Colley of Louisville.

Law enforcement officials were called Sunday to a residence on Kentucky Route 680, where they discovered 53-year-old Patrick Shepherd deceased.

Police reports indicate that a fight between Colley and Shepherd late Sunday night led to Shepherd sustaining fatal injuries.

The Floyd County Coroner pronounced Shepherd dead at the scene, and his body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Colley fled the scene before authorities arrived. Despite an extensive search Sunday, he evaded capture until Monday evening.

Earlier Monday, police issued a public bulletin labeling Colley as “armed and dangerous” and urging residents to report any sightings or information regarding his whereabouts.

Responding agencies include the Kentucky State Police Post 9 and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
