MCMS girls basketball goes 1-1 in preseason event

WARFIELD — Martin County Middle School hosted a panorama Thursday and picked up a 31-26 win over Burch.

Eighth-grader Annaleigh Davis fired in 18 points in the victory after coming alive in the second half.

Kennedy Mills sealed the win for the Cards when she blocked a shot with four seconds remaining.

Six players hit the scoresheets for Martin County.

Bri Muncy nailed two key buckets for the red and white for four points. Newcomers Harleigh Maynard and Mills contributed with three points apiece. Alivia Stacy hit a bucket and Zoe Sammons scored a free throw.

Logan won big over Burch 46-17 and Chapmanville 52-25.

E & A Dream Team warded off a late surge from Chapmanville 32-25.

Martin County took on the Dream Team in the last game of the night.

The Cardinals entered the locker room with a tie game.

E & A pushed their lead back out in the third quarter but the Cards would not go away.

Lexi Cline caught fire at the beginning of the fourth. The young gun tickled the nylon with two shots toeing the 3-point line.

On her next trip up, she made her way behind the line to tie the game back up.

With two minutes remaining, the Cards went ahead by one.

The Dream Team went on a run to finish the game with a 43-37 win.

Cline led Martin County with 13 points. Muncy and Davis reeled off six in the victory.

Mills pushed through five points. Sammons scored from behind the arc for three. Alivia Stacy and Maynard added a bucket each.
